15.2m Semi Displacement Pilothouse Cat
Long range cruising power cat
The brief for this design requested an ability to cruise at 20 knots for 1000 NM, a big ask for a 50’ power cat. A new approach was required, a different hull form to our more normal planing cats so we developed the ‘semi displacement’ shape and had a full CFD analysis done at the MARIN Institute in Holland to determine whether we were on the right track and also to help with engine selection and range calculations. This hull form is designed to perform most efficiently in the 15 to 20 knot band of cruising speed and has very good economy at less than 15 which will give the client very good long range ability with the tank volume provided (5,200 L standard, plus an extra 1,600 L for longer range).
Construction is detailed in full foam cored composite and has produced a very tough, lightweight, and rigid structure that will stand up to what ever is asked of this vessel.
Powered by 2 x 450hp Caterpillar electronic diesels which is more power than required for the desired performance but provide plenty of reserve and security for the owner.
Accommodation is on 3 decks. The lower deck has 3 double cabins, one owner’s with ensuite, one guest with ensuite and an extra single pulman berth, and a 3rd guest double. There is also a service cabin with clothes washer/drier and genset space.
The main deck interior has the galley, lounge seating, dining, and primary helm station with side door access to the deck.
The upper deck has the secondary helm, plenty of seating, a wet bar and fridge, davit crane, and dinghy storage.
