15.9m Performance Cruising Sailing Cat

15.9m Performance Cruising Sailing Cat

High performance in style and comfort.

The 15.9m (52’ 2”) sailing cat was built in Auckland for a NZ owner. The intention of the project is to build additional boats and female moulds for the hulls where produced to facilitate this process. The design can be customized to suit individual requirements for layout etc.

Construction is all foam cored, E glass, epoxy to NZ and Australian survey standards, all laminates are vacuumed and post cured to achieve optimum strength from the material.

Layout for this version consists of 4 large double cabins, 2 fwd cabins having ensuites and an additional heads/shower midships to stbd. The galley is ‘down’ in the port hull with huge amounts of storage space and worktops.

The main saloon has lounge seating, the nav station, and a large dining table capable of easily seating 10.

The deck layout and rig is very simple and easy to use single or short-handed. The rig is a single swept spreader alloy section with boom furling for the main and the jib is self-tacking and furling also.

Engines are a pair of Yanmar 75 hp sail drive units which push her along at 11 knots quite easily combined with very large built in diesel tanks (700 L per side) give this cat a very long range powering at a moderate speed.

The boat has been very successfully chartered and has made 3 trips off shore to the Pacific islands for winter cruising and charter work.

Another feature of the boat is that it is a 12v boat set up with sufficiant solar panels on the large cabin top and aft arch to maintain the fridge and freezer system and put additional charge in the large 6v battery bank without any dependency from the main engines.
